The word Reiki is made of two Japanese words – Rei which means “God’s Wisdom or the Higher Power” and Ki which is “life force energy”. So Reiki is actually “spiritually guided life force energy.”
What is Reiki?
Reiki is a form of alternative medicine developed in 1922 by Japanese Buddhist Mikao Usui. Reiki is a gentle Japanese energetic healing technique that works with the energy fields of the body to help facilitate self-healing and energetic balance throughout the body. This energy is channeled through the practitioner’s hands, on or near the recipient’s body in a series of hand positions, into the recipient, where it can help to restore balance and promote natural healing.
A reiki session feels like a wonderful glowing radiance that flows through and around you. Reiki treats the whole person including body, emotions, mind and spirit creating many beneficial effects that include relaxation and feelings of peace, security and wellbeing.
Reiki is a simple, natural and safe method of spiritual healing and self-improvement that everyone can use. It has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and malady and always creates a beneficial effect. It also works in conjunction with all other medical or therapeutic techniques to relieve side effects and promote recovery.
Reiki and Spirituality
While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. It has no dogma, and there is nothing you must believe in order to learn and use Reiki. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not. Because Reiki comes from God ( Source), many people find that using Reiki puts them more in touch with the experience of their religion rather than having only an intellectual concept of it.
While Reiki is not a religion, it is still important to live and act in a way that promotes harmony with others. Mikao Usui, the founder of the Reiki system of natural healing, recommended that one practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote peace and harmony, which are nearly universal across all cultures.
The Reiki Ideals
During a meditation several years after developing Reiki, Mikao Usui decided to add the Reiki Ideals to the practice of Reiki. The Ideals came in part from the five principles of the Meiji emperor of Japan whom Mikao Usui admired. The Ideals were developed to add spiritual balance to Usui Reiki. Their purpose is to help people realize that healing the spirit by consciously deciding to improve oneself is a necessary part of the Reiki healing experience. In order for the Reiki healing energies to have lasting results, the client must accept responsibility for their own healing and take an active part in it. Therefore, the Usui system of Reiki is more than the use of the Reiki energy. It must also include an active commitment to improve oneself in order for it to be a complete system. The ideals are both guidelines for living a gracious life and virtues worthy of practice for their inherent value.
Types of Reiki we practice
Usui Reiki is the original form of Reiki developed by Mikao Usui in 1922. Usui Reiki is based on the idea that we all have a life force energy flowing through us. When this energy is balanced and flowing freely, we feel healthy and well. If it’s blocked or low, we may feel stressed or unwell. This form of Reiki is typically taught in a series of classes or workshops, and practitioners must be attuned to the Reiki energy by a Reiki master in order to be able to practice it.
Karuna/Holy Fire Reiki is a form of Reiki that was developed by William Lee Rand in the 1990s. It is based on the same principles as Usui Reiki, but it is believed to be more powerful. Karuna/Holy Fire Reiki practitioners are also attuned to the Reiki energy by a Reiki master, during these attunements, practitioners are guided to connect with the Holy Fire energy, enhancing their ability to channel it with the use of a variety of techniques and symbols to facilitate healing during sessions.
The Reiki practitioner uses a non-manipulative light touch technique on the recipient. The client remains fully clothed throughout the session. Reiki is a gentle, yet powerful healing energy, and has been known to assist with healing virtually all major and minor illnesses and injuries. A Reiki session is a very relaxing experience, and can also feel like a meditation, and a gentle healing session.
We offer standard Reiki sessions for relaxation and gentle healing, and customizable sessions to help with specific issues.
A 60-minute session uses a standard set of hand positions, or if guided to do so, hand positions as directed by Reiki energy. In an initial session, we will generally use standard hand positions to ensure all areas of the body are covered. |
A 90-minute session is a more thorough, intuitively guided session, where we can spend more time sending Reiki energy to specific areas. |
Distance Reiki
You may choose between 30, 60 and 90 minute sessions of distance reiki with a reiki grid. I have an array of crystals to aid in the process, each helping in different areas of life.
Reiki can be sent through both time and space. As such, it can be sent to anyone at a distance, and can be sent backward or forward through time.
A Distance Reiki Session is the same as having an in-person session, and it is equally as effective. To prepare for this session, we will contact you to set up a specific date and time so you can settle in, relax, and enjoy your Reiki session.
